It reminds me - in the most complimentary way, you understand - of the Joker. Not the Cesar Romero, cartoonish one - the one I think of as the "real" Joker - totally unhinged, but honed to raw, razor-sharpness.
I've heard similar thoughts from celebrities. People who think that they put on a mask for the public and in the end all they are is the mask they created.
In my time I've been accused of wearing different masks for different people. I think it is something you have to do in order to navigate the world. That said, this is a clear warning to not 'believe the hype' and fall for the stories you tell others about yourself.
